The spoon billed Sandpiper is another Critically Endangered species found in areas such as Russia, Japan , North Korea, South Korea ,China, India, Sri Lanka . It can be recognized having red-brown head, neck and breast with dark brown streaks. Blackish upperparts with buff and pale rufous fringing. These generally measure about 15cm ,it can be seen in India during the winters and rest it migrates to other countries during other seasons.These birds have been considerably affected by the Human activities which has made its population to reach around 700 only.Due to rigorous habitat loss in its breeding, passage and wintering grounds, which is compounded by disturbance, hunting and the effects of climate change these birds are almost extinct now.
