There are 15 families of snake, 456 genera and there are 2,900 species. The smallest snake, the Thread snake is just 10 cm long and the longest, Python reticulates is 28 ft long. Just a mere thought of snake scare the hell out to many. But with this list of colorful snake you will surely admire them.
1. Brazilian Rainbow Boa
This uniquely colored snake which is scientifically called Epicrates cenchria is a boa found in Central and South America. This species is known for its attractive iridescent sheen.
2. Emerald Tree Boa
Most species of boas are colorful like the Corallus caninus, a non-venomous snake found in the rainforests of South America. Adults grow to about 6 feet or 1.8 m in length.. They have highly developed front teeth that are likely proportionately larger than those of any other non-venomous snake.
3. Mexican Milk Snake (Lampropeltis triangulum annulata)
The non venomous Mexican Milk Snake is a colorful banded snake that is endemic to Mexico. It has distinct red, black and cream colored banding. It is a coral snake mimic that can also be found in the US. This nocturnal can attain a length of 76 cm. It feeds on lizards and rodents
- It also feeds on other snakes.
- It’s becoming a popular exotic pet due to its attractive and striking colorations.
4.Gray-banded Kingsnake, (Lampropeltis alterna)
The non-venomous Grey-banded Kingsnake of the US particularly Texas and New Mexico is a medium sized snake that can attain a length of 57 inches. It is more commonly referred to as the Alterna. It is nocturnal and has wide red/orange banding. It is a species that is commonly kept in captivity and is a popular exotic pet.
5.Banded Krait (Bungarus fasciatus)
The venomous Banded Krait of India and Southeast Asia is a species of snake that is easily recognized by its alternate black and yellow bands. It occurs in the whole of the Indo-Chinese sub region, the Malaysian peninsula and archipelago and Southern China.
6. Blue-lipped Sea Krait (Laticauda laticaudata)
The Blue-lipped Sea Krait is a sea snake that can attain a length of 1.07 meters. The female is longer than male species. It can be found in the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean. They inhabit the waters around the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and manyothers.
7.Green Vine Snake
This snake with pretty geometrical color pattern is also called the Long-nosed Whipped Snake or Ahaetulla nasuta is a slender green tree snake found in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. The green vine snake is diurnal and mildly venomous. They are slow moving, relying on camouflaging as a vine in foliage. The snake expands its body when disturbed to show a black and white scale marking. Also, they may open their mouth in threat display and point their head in the direction of the perceived threat .
8. Colubrine Sea Krait (Laticauda colubrina)
The Colubrine Sea Krait with blue and black bands is a sea snake that inhabits the tropical waters of the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean. The snout is remarkably noticeable because of its yellow color hence it is also commonly called Yellow-lipped Sea Krait. Another informal name of this species is Banded Sea Krait.
9. Diamond Python (Morelia spilota)
This species of python called Morelia spilota is a large snake found in Australia, Indonesia and New Guinea. The subspecies are commonly named the Carpet and Diamond pythons. This species traps or constricts its prey until they suffocate.
10.Green Tree Python
Scientifically named Morelia viridis is a pythion found in New Guinea, islands in Indonesia, and Cape York Peninsula in Australia. Adults average 90-120 cm (3-4 feet) in length, with a maximum grow to about 213 cm (7 ft). The scales have thermo-receptive pits.
11.Amazon Tree Boa (Corallus enydris)
This brightly colored species of snake named the Amazon Tree Boa is found in Costa Rica, Panama, and northern South America, through most of Venezuela and Guyana, and south and westward through Amazonian Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil.
12.Eastern Blackneck Garter Snake
This pretty colored snake called Eastern Blackneck Garter Snake or Thamnophis cyrtopsis ocellatus grows to a full length of 16 inches to 20 inches with the longest ever recorded measuring 43 inches. It is friendly and gets accustomed to a life of captivity.
13.Paradise Tree Snake
This beautiful snake is also called Paradise Flying Snake and scientifically named Chrysopelea paradise. It is a species of snake found in Asia. It can glide by stretching the body into a flattened strip using its ribs. It is mostly found in moist forests and can cover a horizontal distance of about 100 meters in a glide from the top of a tree.
14.Red-tailed Green Ratsnake
This snake’s color goes along well with the color of nature – green. Red-tailed Green Ratsnake or Gonyosoma oxycephalum is a species of snake found in the region where I live – Southeast Asia. It is a thin snake with powerful and rough scales on its bottom, which makes it ideal to move and climbtrees. Its tail is red hence the name. It lives and spends its life in the trees. It feeds mostly on smallmammals. Its body can grow up to 2.3 meters and its average age is 15 years.
15.Blue Coral Snake
The beautiful and attractive (and colorful of course) Blue Coral Snake can be found in indonesia, malaysia and Singapore. The ssnake looks uniquely pretty for its red head and tail.
